  1. The tech of PIXAR part 1: Piper – daring to be different | fxguide

I liked this not just because it’s amazing (every grain of sand on the beach is an individual model) but because it’s not written with normal people in mind: crammed with jargon and brand names with no explanation. An almost understandable glimpse of another world.

  2. Spectacle, Speculation, Spam on Vimeo

Lots of this went over my head so I can’t quite tell if it’s good, but it was interesting, (via Russell Davies)

  3. GTA V - Graphics Study - Adrian Courrèges

Even not understanding much of it, it’s amazing to see what goes into rendering a single frame of GTA V. (via @timoarnall a while back)

  4. Beeple - the work of mike winkelmann (cinema 4d project files, free vj loops etc.)

He’s been making a new 3D science-fictiony image every day since 2007. Some lovely things. (via Bldblog)

  5. Boil Up

A nice description of someone working out how to animate an underwater scene. The ambitions, discoveries and compromises involved. (via Infovore)

  6. Why the New Aesthetic isn’t about 8bit retro, the Robot Readable World, computer vision and pirates

Rev. Dan Catt on the distinction between computer graphics and computer vision, as regards the New Aesthetic. A good distinction.

  7. TruSim :: Division of Blitz Games Studios Ltd

Saw these videos of CGI humans at Playful. Very impressive. The second one was very unsettling — I’ve never had an emotional reaction like that to computer graphics.

  8. Hong Kong’s Most Disturbing CG Illustrations « WITMOT?

Hong Kong’s ‘Apple Daily’ makes computer images for news stories when there are no photos. Hilarious, especially if you scroll down to Morgan Freeman. (via Ted Mills)

  9. The Ward-O-Matic: The Polar Express: A Virtual Train Wreck (conclusion)

Interesting, fun post about computer modelling of humans for animation.
