    I don't actually want that but it seems like a next step for the machine-learning-curious.

    @crouchingbadger @tristanf I keep remembering groups being interviewed in, say, the 1980s being all "We're not 'shoegaze', we don't want to be pigeonholed!" and thinking how quaint it was to have so few pigeonholes.

    @tristanf Yeah on the one hand I find these tiny genres really useful for their playlists* but on the other it feels odd to say "this genre you've never heard of was your favourite!"

    * But I'm increasingly distrustful of Spotify's algorithmic playlists, assuming they're now algo + payola.

    Well Phil, I guess using their hundreds of niche genres is a great way to get people like you promoting Spotify everywhere.

    Buy music from somewhere like bandcamp.com when you can, especially tomorrow when it's another all-money-goes-to-the-artists Friday.

    Most awkward new office misstep: Third day and I'm on the phone and need to take a note, so I write it on a whiteboard. Finish call and turn around to find the whole office staring at me. There was no whiteboard, it *was* just a white wall.
