    @russss @tominsam Weird. It’s never worked for me. 10.12.4 on two different MacBook Pros (Early 2015 I think), either Thunderbolt port.

    @tominsam If I have windows on my laptop screen, if I unplug and replug an external display, they end up on the external display. Grrr.

    @schinckel If I have a window open on the laptop screen, then unplug the external display, then plug it back in, no apps remember their positions.

    (I’ve tried the apps Stay and Display Maid but you have to actively save window positions in order to restore them again.)

    Why can’t macOS remember window positions when un/plugging displays? This must have annoyed people who’ve worked on macOS over the years.
