INT. CLINIC. DAY.
MARIA and MATTHEW are sitting on chairs in the waiting room. MATTHEW puts a cigarette in his mouth. They both look anxious.
MATTHEW
How long do you think it'll take?
MARIA
I don't know. Not long, I guess.
MATTHEW
Are you OK?
MARIA
Yeah. You? She takes the cigarette out of Matthew's mouth.
MATTHEW
I feel like smashing things up.
MARIA
Relax. There's nothing to worry about. Why don't you go for a walk?
MATTHEW
I don't want to take a walk. You sure you want to go through with this?
MARIA
What do you mean?
MATTHEW
Marry me.
MARIA
Don't be crazy
MATTHEW
Marry me. Have the baby. We'll be a family.
MARIA
You're delirious.
MATTHEW
Sorry.
MARIA
It's OK.
MATTHEW breathes nervously.
MATTHEW
How long do you think it'll take?
MARIA
I don't know. Not long, I guess. She takes the cigarette out of Matthew's mouth.
MATTHEW
Are you OK?
MARIA
Yeah. You?
MATTHEW
I feel like tearing somebody's head off.
VOICE Off
Maria Coughlin.
MARIA and MATTHEW look at each other, then MARIA
resolutely gets up.
MATTHEW sighs, then looks at the other women in the room. He also glances at a guy,
JOHN, sitting among the women. JOHN comes and sits down next to
MATTHEW.
JOHN
How're you doin'?
MATTHEW
I feel like smashing things up.
JOHN
Yeah. Sometimes it gets like that. Your first time?
MATTHEW
What?
JOHN
Your first time here?
MATTHEW
Of course.
JOHN
I thought so.
MATTHEW
Who the hell are you?
JOHN
John. John Bill. How're you doin'?
JOHN puts his hand out for MATTHEW to shake. MATTHEW ignores it.
MATTHEW
I already told you. I feel like punchin' somebody's lights out.
JOHN
Yeah. The first time's kinda tough. But you know, it's an amazing thing. You come in here the first time -
your whole life's a mess. All this tension and stuff. Then she goes in there and when she comes out
everything's fixed.
MATTHEW looks at him, then he grabs JOHN and throws him to the floor. People
scream as MATTHEW and JOHN grapple with each other on the floor.
In the other room MARIA is taking off her jacket. She stops when she hears the noise of
fighting. She jumps off the table and goes out into the waiting room.
