INT. CHAMPAGNE BAR - NIGHT
Ted and Montserrat sit at a table along the wall.
TED
It's a typical pretty-girl thing - using observation for ridicule, as if impertinence were cute and
charming. . . . My impression is that someone like Aurora would be more apt to use observation for
comprehension, not -
MONTSERRAT
(Surprised) - You don't think Aurora is pretty?
TED
No . . .
MONTSERRAT
But she's beautiful. . . .
TED
Physically?
MONTSERRAT
Yes, her eyes . . .
TED
You think she's beautiful because of her eyes?
MONTSERRAT
Yes. She also has a beautiful . . . figure. . . .
TED
She does?
MONTSERRAT
Oh yes.(Pause) Apparently, you are just the sort of "dangerous" foreign man she likes.
TED
What do you mean?
MONTSERRAT
(Laughs) Your brother told her about your . . . interests.
TED
What?
MONTSERRAT
You know . . .
TED
No.
MONTSERRAT
The Marquis de Sade . . . games of leather, weekends of fun. . . . The straps under your clothes -
TED
- He said that?
Montserrat nods "yes."
TED
That's completely untrue - I can't believe it.(Pause) He promised he wouldn't say that
anymore.(Pause; then emphatically.) He's not my brother.
MONTSERRAT
You don't know anything about the Marquis de Sade at all?
TED
No.
MONTSERRAT
Well - I don't believe you.
INT. DISCO - NIGHT
Montserrat and Ted walking away from the quite wild lounge area of a very popular disco. Ted is buttoning his shirt and tucking in his shirttails.
MONTSERRAT
So you're not wearing them tonight. That doesn't prove anything. . . . Maybe they're at the cleaners.
INT. DISCO DANCE FLOOR - NIGHT
Montserrat and Ted dancing superbly together on semicrowded dance floor.
TED (v.o.)
It turned out that we both loved the disco music of the late 1970s, despite what everyone else
thought.
INT. DISCO BANQUETTE TABLES - NIGHT
Ted and Montserrat seated, in intense conversation.
TED (v.o.)
We talked about all kinds of things.
TED
You know how at parties people always talk about marketing?
MONTSERRAT
No.
Ted gives her a look of surprise and amazement.
MONTSERRAT
I've never heard people at a party talk about marketing.
TED
(An incredulous pause, then continues) Well, this idea of marketing being a science - if you look at
the evidence, it's all anecdotal.
INT. DISCO DANCE FLOOR - NIGHT
The dance floor with Montserrat at center, smiling a lot. (If Ted is shown, he is, despite everything, a cool dancer.)
TED (v.o.)
I think it was during a Donna Summer song that it really happened, or at least that I realized it had.
